This was our first time traveling to the Southern Highlands, and our first destination wedding. During our drive the day before we took in the beautiful scenery and could see why the couple had chosen that stunning area for their wedding. The lovely couple getting hitched, Jeanette and Stephen, loved the old charm and stunning grounds of the Robertson Hotel, built in the 1920s, and we did too!
It might be an unusual wedding date to pick, but Australia Day was the perfect choice for Jeanette and Stephen. Not only because they are proud to be Australian, but also as they saw their wedding as a huge celebration of their love and connection to their friends and family. They had their whole circle of friends and family invested in their wedding - from planning, to decorating, to being part of their huge bridal party - everyone was so happy to be part of their day, with some friends even traveling from America to share the day with them. Jeanette's brother officiated their wedding and the lucky bride had her wedding dress designed and custom made by her friend and talented designer Alberto Barros. It's so special seeing friends and family pitch in and use their talents to help the couple have the wedding of their dreams.
The Southern Highlands are known for their cold winter weather, and moderate summer temperatures, but it must have been one of the hottest days on record there! We have had lots hot wedding days in the past, but that one topped them all so far, simply because it was unexpected. The guests were struggling to get ready, as the hotel wasn't equipped with air conditioning nor had enough fans available to get a bit of relief.
The ceremony took place in the beautiful gardens of the hotel, and there were lots of happy tears, prayers and songs during the heartfelt ceremony. We loved the little retired train station at the bottom of the hotel - it was the perfect spot for part of the bridal shoot. The wedding ended with a reception outside, underneath fairy lights and with a sparkler send-off.
It was an absolutely memorable day, and we are so honoured you chose us to capture it for you, Jeanette and Stephen!
